he seems famous. but he's not famous. he's just some guy who makes funny videos. high quality videos. with actors. and scripts. but he's not famous. who is this guy?
i think he lives in nashville, too. which makes him even more puzzling. maybe he seems familiar because i have seen him around or something.
i have no idea.

Why I'd hate to leave Texas
Have you ever looked at a map of the world? Look at Texas with me just for a second. That picture, with the Panhandle and the Gulf Coast , and the Red River and the Rio Grande is as much a part of you as anything ever will be. As soon as anyone anywhere in the world looks at it they know what it is. It's Texas . Pick any kid off the street in Japan and draw him a picture of Texas in the dirt and he'll know what it is. What happens if I show you a picture of any other state? You might get it maybe after a second or two, but who else would? And even if you do, does it ever stir any feelings in you?
In every man, woman and child on this planet, there is a person who wishes just once he could be a real live Texan and get up on a horse or ride off in a pickup. There is a little bit of Texas in everyone.
Texas is the Alamo . Texas is 183 men standing in a church, facing thousands of Mexican nationals, fighting for freedom, who had the chance to walk out and save themselves, but stayed instead to fight and die for the cause of freedom.
We send our kids to schools named William B. Travis and James Bowie and Davy Crockett, and do you know why? Because those men saw a line in the sand and they decided to cross it and be heroes.
John Wayne paid to do the movie himself . That is the Spirit of Texas .
Texas is Sam Houston capturing Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana at San Jacinto .
Texas is huge forests of Piney Woods like the Davy Crockett and Sam Houston National Forests .
Texas is breathtaking mountains in the Big Bend .
Texas is the unparalleled beauty of bluebonnet fields in the Texas Hill Country.
Texas is floating the rivers of the Hill Country on a hot summer day.
Texas is the beautiful, warm beaches of the Gulf Coast of South Texas.
Texas is beaches you can drive on and have many memorable bon-fires with close friends.
Texas is that warm feeling you get when someone asks where you're from.

You fly the Stars and Stripes at 20 feet in Maryland , California , or Maine , and your state flag, whatever it is, goes at 17 feet. You fly the Stars and Stripes in front of Klein Oak High or anyplace else at 20 feet, the Lone Star flies at the same height - 20 feet. Do you know why? Because it is the only state that was a Republic before it became a state.
Also, being a Texan is as high as being an American down here. Our capitol is the only one in the country that is taller than the capitol building in Washington , D.C. And we can divide our state into five states at any time if we wanted to!We can become a republic again at any time the voters of Texas choose, and we included these things as part of the deal when we came on.
That's the best part, right there.

after a long day i felt the need to unwind.
i settled into my comfy recliner (which is not aesthetically pleasing, but is still pretty awesome), and started to read...
macbeth.
what? i'm reading shakespeare?
i feel like i'm too ridiculous of a person to read shakespeare.
but...
dude has a way with words.

people of uncultivated tastes
i know everyone has different taste in movies. and no one's taste is superior.
but...
slumdog millionaire.
best picture?
really?
i'm not saying it was a bad movie. it was a unique plot. it was a good movie. but a great movie? i don't think so. if i hadn't known it won best picture, i would have stopped watching after 10 or 15 minutes, because nothing interesting was happening. ok, so that's a lie. i always finish movies, even bad ones. but theoretically...i would have stopped.
and the weirdest part to me...
in every preview i saw for this movie, it had clips of them dancing by the trains. so i thought this was going to be some sort of weird indian musical or something.
but that wasn't even part of the movie. that was part of the credits.
why in the world would they put clips from the credits in the previews?
maybe i'm missing something. someone will probably comment and explain why the dancing part was significant. and i'd love to know, so please do.
today i finished reading "the reason for God" by tim keller (who may someday be deemed a great author), and i'm starting macbeth by shakespeare. and most people agree...shakespeare is pretty great.
i read "much ado about nothing" once. it was funny. i've heard macbeth is "great."
educated and uneducated people alike appreciated his plays. at least that's what my word-a-day calendar said. the word was "groundlings."
does the fact that i refer to a word-a-day calendar as a source of knowledge discredit everything i say?

overheard conversations: on the playground
i think i'm going to have a segment on my blog. you know, like a routine thing i do. that's what all the hip bloggers do. i can be hip. (everyone i know is shaking their heads right now...)
but really, i overhear a lot of funny conversations. not every day or anything. who knows how often this will be reported on my blog. but here's a start.
today on the playground:
(the names of the children have been changed, because...i'm not creepy)
susie: hey...what is that man's name?
teacher: you mean that...little boy...in the other class?
susie: yes.
teacher: his name is johnny-steals-a-lot-but-he-gets-away-with-it-because-he's-cute-and-everyone-thinks-he's-an-angel
susie: oh. what is that girl's name?
teacher: you know her name.
susie: little-girl-who-screams-to-get-her-way-and-then-laughs-as-soon-as-she-does
teacher: yep. that's her name.
susie: she has mulch on her bottom.
teacher: yes. yes she does.
(i also wanted to change the names so i could vent a little)

i used to be indecisive, but now i'm not sure.
we finally got the report back on our evaluation. it took two months. we knew we passed, but my boss wouldn't give us our bonus until she saw our individual room scores. a recap: we did well. really well. but didn't get any credit from our boss until today. the state said "good job!" my boss said "we'll wait and see if it was good."
but we got what she called a "really high toddler score!" teachers with our age group don't usually score well because the kids are so impossible at this age. but we did well, and i'm getting my bonus.
which means i will get to say goodbye to .002% of my student loans. cha-ching!
and today's funny observation:
we have a couple cars in the classroom that they can ride around on. today i saw one kid riding on a car, but he also wanted to work a puzzle. the choice was too much for him. so he rode his car up to the puzzle shelf, and worked a puzzle while sitting on the car. what a generation we're raising.
